PHYSICAL WELL-BEING
Instructional Design | Instructor Skill Verification | Hydration | Progression | Active Warm-Ups | Helmet Requirement
Instruction is given by some of the best coaches from around the country, who are focused on helping guests improve their skill set and have fun. A coach’s skills are verified prior to working with guests from spotting and skill progression to emergency procedures.
In the event of an accident or emergency Woodward Park City has full time patrollers, a camp Nurse, as well as an Athletic Trainer.
An essential part of sport progression is ensuring that our participants take care of their bodies.
-
At Woodward Park City, we require all action sports guests to wear helmets appropriate to the sport they are participating.
-
Maintaining hydration is key to athletic performance which is why Gatorade has teamed up with Woodward to ensure athletes are properly hydrated, so they can perform at their best.
EMOTIONAL WELLNESS
The emotional well-being of our guests is a top priority for us at Woodward. By partnering with several wellness groups, we are confident in the level of training and resources that we are providing our coaches and guests. Our coaches and staff have been trained in crisis identification, harassment, mental health, and emotional wellness. Our strategic partnerships in this area are resources that we can provide a parent or guardian in a time of need or crisis.
Through our partnership with Skate Like a Girl, we can teach and provide our staff with the foundational skills needed for them to deal with dynamic situations effectively. Allysk8 is an interactive workshop developed by Skate Like a Girl for members of their volunteer team, partners, community, and all who are connected to skateboarding. We practice the mindset and skills needed to build a solid foundation for creating a more inclusive skateboarding/action sports community. Coaching staff attends this workshop as part of orientation, where we cover three main topics:
- Introductions and Inclusivity
- Giving and receiving feedback
- Consent within coaching
To keep in the true camp spirit, we have several themes for each day of camp. These themes are geared toward positive outcomes in sport and in life. Campers are welcome to bring clothes and accessories to match each day’s theme:
Mahalo Mondays - Awareness of others and the world around you; start slowly, warm up, and establish skills you are comfortable doing, keep it mellow! Wear Hawaiian shirts, flowers and, rainbows to help everyone feel welcome.
Tie Dye Tuesday - Camp is all about having fun and learning, make the most of it! Make new friends, try new skills from a new trick to arts and crafts. Wear a tie-dye shirt or make a new one at camp.
Woodward Wednesdays - Show perseverance and patience to create progress. Wear your favorite Woodward logo item.
Teamwork Thursday - Support your fellow campers as they get after some new skills and overcome fears. Wear your favorite school or team jersey.
Play Forever Fridays - Create passion for our sports and the environment so we can continue doing the things we love in beautiful places. Wear recycled clothing that was popular during a specific decade (leg warmers, fanny packs, etc.).
